Max Portnoy, 15-year-old son of Mike Portnoy, joins us to talk about his upcoming CD from his band, “Next To None.” Mike also joins us and assures us as the producer of the project, that this was not a “gimme” for Max and his band mates. Mike had nothing to do with the writing and development of the band’s music, and chimes in from the perspective of working at the producer’s desk. Max fills us in on what the writing process was like, trying songs out live to see how they were received, and the recording experience.
Max also has advice for very young players who want to be in a band and Mike has advice for parents of children with musical aspirations.
